Build the Future of Graduate Medical Education on the Gulf Coast

The Department of Anesthesiology is seeking an exceptional physician leader to serve as the Founding Residency Program Director for our new Anesthesiology Residency Program as we pursue ACGME accreditation. This is a rare opportunity to build a residency program from the ground up while helping shape the future of graduate medical education within an academic health system on the Gulf Coast.

As the Founding Program Director, you will play a pivotal role in establishing a premier academic training program while maintaining an active clinical practice. Working collaboratively with departmental and institutional leadership, you will develop the curriculum, recruit outstanding faculty and residents, establish the educational infrastructure, and lead the program through the ACGME accreditation process.

This is more than a leadership position—it’s an opportunity to create a lasting legacy by mentoring future anesthesiologists and building a residency program that will impact generations of physicians. You’ll join a rapidly expanding academic health system experiencing continued growth in surgical volume, clinical services, and graduate medical education.

Program Director Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the vision, leadership, and academic experience necessary to establish and lead a high-quality ACGME-accredited Anesthesiology Residency Program.

Required Qualifications

  • Board Certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) or the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology (AOBA)
  • Active participation in MOCA 2.0 with continuous maintenance of certification
  • Minimum of three (3) years of documented educational and/or administrative leadership experience acceptable to the ACGME Review Committee
  • Demonstrated scholarly activity through publications, curriculum development, educational innovation, quality improvement initiatives, clinical research, or other meaningful academic contributions.

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience serving as a Residency Program Director or Associate Program Director within an ACGME-accredited Graduate Medical Education (GME) program
  • Expertise in curriculum development, resident recruitment and selection, ACGME Common Program Requirements, resident evaluations, Milestone reporting, Clinical Competency Committee participation, Annual Program Evaluation, and institutional accreditation reporting

Physicians with substantial Graduate Medical Education experience who have not yet served in a formal Program Director or Associate Program Director role are also encouraged to apply. Candidates with demonstrated leadership potential, a passion for resident education, and a commitment to academic excellence will receive strong consideration. This founding leadership role offers outstanding institutional support and the resources necessary to successfully develop and lead a new residency program.
